Old Christmas At Tarkil Branch Museum

Have you ever tried to tell your children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren how Christmas was observed when you were young?  This year you can actually show them in person.

Tarkil Branch Farm’s Homestead Museum and the Cedar Fork Ruritan Club proudly present a program of storytellers, food, and hospitality in general to show how ”Old Christmas” was celebrated a long time ago.

A little more about the tour........Upon arrival at the visitors center you will be invited to enjoy coffee while awaiting your festively decorated wagon for your ride to the   1940’s Cy Horne house.  By the fireside you will enjoy a period Christmas tree and  Christmas Story.

Next on the tour you will pay a visit to the  Antebellum farm house. There you will learn how Christmas was observed in Duplin County in the 1840’s.  The next stop will find yourself in a 1925 country store sharing Apple Cider with the store owner’s grandson telling you about Christmas in the days gone by.  Along your journey you experience the sights, smells, customs and tastes of yesteryear.  In the kitchen of the 1830's house the cooks are busy cooking biscuits, sausage, sweet taters & peaches.

The dates for “Old Christmas” are December 28th and December 29th, 2007.  The tour times will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.  Cost for the tour will be $10.00, and $5.00 anyone 5 years old and under.  To avoid a long wait for your tour, advance reservations may be made by calling 910 298 3804.  You may also email us at abf@airnettech.com
